Stat!

Mommy and I love to listen to you as you play with your toys, little one. The worlds and stories and drama that you create with your little people is amazing.

Last night we heard you say this:

“We have to get to the beach. Stat!”

I’d ask you where you learned the word “stat” but you would just tell me that Gramps taught you.

You must hate these people

You have surrounded the grandmother and grandson figures on your play board with lions, tigers and bears, oh my.

Literally. 

I wish I knew what went through your mind while constructing scenes like these.

You spend hours playing like this, little one, and Mommy and I can’t get enough of it.

The Open and Close Eyes Game

You have informed us, little one, that Charlie’s favorite game is The Open and Close Eyes Game.

“He’s playing it again, Daddy!” you shout as Charlie sits in my lap, blinking.

Maybe you’re onto something. It’s true that Charlie blinks, and it’s also true that he doesn’t do much else.

Maybe you know something we don’t.

 

Charlie’s favorite game

You seem to know your brother better than us, little one. You report that his favorite game is the “open and close eyes game.” Apparently whenever Charlie is blinking, he is playing a game that we were not aware of.

So good to have a big sister around to keep us well informed.

This is not supposed to be a complicated game.

You don’t understand tag, little one.

You think that the person who is “It” is the one who is supposed to be chased. You point your finger at me, shout, “You’re it!” and then wait for me to run away so you can chase me. I have tried and tried to convince you otherwise, but you just don’t get it.

I’m legitimately worried that you will be playing tag with your friends someday and look like a fool.

I have no idea what to do.

I spy a fundamental misunderstanding of the “I Spy” game

While driving up to the Berkshires yesterday, we played “I Spy” in the car.

Clara: I spy with my little eye something very far away.

Mommy and I offered several appropriate guesses, none of which were correct.

Mommy: Can we have a hint, please?

Clara: Do you want a hint?

Mommy: Yes, please.

Clara: Do you think it could be China?

Mommy: Is it China?

Clara: Yes!

“This is a nice place.”

I took you to the park, today, little one. I cannot get over how much you’ve changed since last spring. Slides and swings and other playground apparatus that once scared the hell out of you is now just another piece of playground fun.

I honestly thought that you’d be afraid of this curving slide forever.
