Tonight I am grateful for your inexplicable change of heart in regards to the shoes that Mommy bought months ago.
This morning, on the way to school, Mommy told you that your purple sparkly shoes were falling apart and in need of replacement. You responded by removing your shoes, throwing them to the floor and crying all the way to school.
Unlike every woman I have ever met, you have absolutely no interest in new shoes.
Unaware of these events, I coincidentally cleaned off the top of the bureau this evening, where two new pairs of shoes had been sitting, still in their boxes, for months. You had rejected them long ago, but we decided to put them in her closet tonight in hopes that you might one day reconsider.
By the time I returned to the bedroom with your toothbrush, you had a new pair of shoes on your feet and were admiring them with a wide grin. you even asked to go to sleep in your new shoes, and we quickly agreed.
Anything to cement the love that you suddenly felt for them, little one.
New shoes at last. We probably have about three months before we’ll need to attempt another changing of the guard.
A welcomed respite in the toddler footwear battles.

Tonight I am grateful for the reappearance of Baby Cow, little one.
Baby Cow is one of your favorite little people toys, and she has been missing for almost two days. You don’t get terribly upset when a toy goes missing, but you speak of its disappearance constantly and continually enlist us in the search for it.
I never expected a lost toy to create so much work for me.
Today Mommy found Baby Cow underneath the sofa.
I’m an idiot for not looking there first.

You’ve loved many of your little people, little one, and that love has wavered and shifted, sometimes on a daily basis.
I think I’ll assemble all of your favorite little people thus far and line them up in chronological order, just to show you the changes over the past three years.
But one little person has been consistent throughout the run, and that is Baby Cow.
Little people may rise and little people may fall, but Baby Cow has been a staple through it all.
All hail Baby Cow.

For the second consecutive day, little one, you have made a pee-pee on the potty.
After today’s successful endeavor, Mommy put you in a pair of big girl underwear, at least for a while. The underwear has cupcakes on them, which you liked a lot and told me about at least three times.
We also called Nani and Aunty Emily to tell them about your accomplishment, and they showered you with praise and attention. When Nani asked if you’d like some more big girl underwear, you said, “No, I have some already.”
“She’s just like her father,” Nani said over the phone.
While this is true and I appreciated your minimalist sentiment, little one, underwear is not generally one of those items that you can own too much of.
If someone’s offering you underwear, and that underwear is not used underwear, you should probably take them up on the offer next time.

We could’ve bought you the real fly boat (the vehicle of choice of the Wonder Pets), little one, but the reviews online were terrible.
Not to be deterred, you came up with your own fly boat, and I think it’s actually better than any piece of plastic junk that we could’ve bought you.
Imagination always trumps retail, little one.
