Tonight I am grateful for the reappearance of Baby Cow, little one.
Baby Cow is one of your favorite little people toys, and she has been missing for almost two days. You don’t get terribly upset when a toy goes missing, but you speak of its disappearance constantly and continually enlist us in the search for it.
I never expected a lost toy to create so much work for me.
Today Mommy found Baby Cow underneath the sofa.
I’m an idiot for not looking there first.

You love dinosaurs, little one.
I don’t know if this is normal for little girls, but if it is, I don’t want anyone to tell me. I’d like to think that it’s highly abnormal. And permanent. And special.
I’d like to think that my geeky, childhood love for dinosaurs has somehow rubbed off on my daughter or been genetically transferred to her in some unexpected, inexplicable, magical way.

You were playing with some large, rubber dinosaurs in the museum’s toddler room. You had a triceratops (her favorite dinosaur), an apatosaurus (formerly known as a brontosaurus when I was a child) and a stegosaurus.
A boy walked over and grabbed the triceratops, which you had put down for a moment. You reached out and snatched it back from him. “No!” you said. “I’m playing with that!”
“You need to share,” I said. “You can’t keep all of the dinosaurs to yourself.”
You thought a moment, looked down at the dinosaurs in front of you and then threw the stegosaurs at the boy. It bounced off his chest. He picked it up and walked away.
You looked up at me and said, “I don’t like that dinosaur.”
At last you’re beginning to understand the art of sharing, little one.
