I was out and about with you today when a young man in a white tank top annoyed me. What he did is irrelevant. But if you weren’t with me, I would’ve let the guy have a piece of my mind. I almost did anyway, but your gurgle from the car seat behind me deterred me from a confrontation.
Perhaps this is what has happened to so many parents I know. Shifting from a more liberal, potentially controversial and daring stance, maybe these parents have adopted a safer, more conservative position as a result of their children.
I’ve used the word lame in the past, but maybe conventional, traditional or old-fashioned is more appropriate.
But sometimes is seems downright lame.
While I may adopt a similar position in your presence, little one, I will most assuredly remain my confrontational, less-than-conforming self when you are not in my charge, little one.
I want you to grow up and feel free to be yourself. I will set the example and do the same.
